Daylo — Quick Start
For a new Mac or Windows user · Phase J v7
1. Install
You need the setup ZIP, Python 3.9 or newer, and the workspace owner's sync connection details. The owner supplies an Apps Script Web App URL ending in /exec and its private authorization token.
- If needed, install Python from python.org/downloads. On Windows, include the Python launcher when offered.
- Extract the entire Daylo_Mac_Windows_Setup_Jv7.zip.
- Double-click Install on Mac.command or Install on Windows.cmd.
- The app opens at http://localhost:8000/. After a computer restart, double-click the Start Daylo Desktop launcher.
Keep using the same browser and profile. The setup ZIP contains the app, not anyone's business records or secret key. It is a Python-based installer, not a signed native .pkg or .exe.
2. Connect your workspace
Do this before creating clients or editing the profile on a fresh installation. The workspace owner needs a deployed Google Sheets backend and its saved sync key; the installer does not create these Google resources.
- On Dashboard, find Cloud sync & data safety.
- Enter the owner's Apps Script Web App URL and Authorization Token. Leave automatic sync off for now. Click Save Settings, then Test Authenticated Connection.
- Starting a new business workspace: use the owner's empty backend and leave the app empty. Do not restore old test backups. Joining a workspace that already has real records: on this empty installation, click Recover From Cloud and follow its confirmation, then compare the record counts with the owner's app. If recovery reports pending local items, ask the owner to help reconcile them.
- Enable automatic sync, save settings, and run Sync Now. Pending and attention counts should reach zero.
- Export a local backup and use Verify Backup File. Run Data Safety, System Health, and Production Readiness; resolve any reported issues before relying on the installation.
The token grants access to the shared workspace; give it only to authorized users. Everyone working on the same invoices must use the same backend.
3. Start working
- Profile Setup: the workspace owner enters the business name, address, logo and payment methods once. These settings are shared with the workspace.
- Clients → Add Client: enter the name, a short unique client code and hourly rate. Invoice numbers use the client code, year and next sequence, such as
ACM-2026-001. - Dashboard → Create Invoice: select the client and review the issue date, rate and payment terms. Issuing a new number requires a working internet/backend connection.
- Punch Clock: select the client and available invoice, start the clock, then stop it when finished. Or use Timesheet to enter work manually. Check the date, hours and rate.
- View 2-Page Invoice / Print / PDF: review the invoice and timesheet, choose the pages, then print or save as PDF using the computer's print dialog.
4. Finish safely
Use Sync Now while connected and check for zero pending/attention items. Keep a separate verified backup regularly. Wait for Ready offline before relying on offline reopening. Existing saved records can be used offline; new invoice numbers, sync and cloud recovery need a connection.
If something goes wrong
- Blank records: check the browser/profile and exact address. A Safari Dock app has its own data and needs its own recovery.
- Connection failed: check the
/exec URL and token with the owner; do not post the token in chat or screenshots. - Pending/conflict items: keep the records and ask the owner to review the app's conflict controls. Do not clear browser data or reset invoice numbers.
- Port 8000 already used: another local app/release is running. The installer will not stop it. Close its server before starting this version.
For a separate business, arrange its own empty Google Sheets backend first. Each business should have its own backend and key. This guide connects a new user to an already prepared workspace; the installer does not create a Google account, spreadsheet or deployment. Windows launch scripts are included, but native Windows execution has not yet been tested.
